Networking

How can I deploy Keyboard Express across a network?
There is an option to use a silent install to install Keyboard Express from a network server. Read the Advanced Installation help topic for more information about this process and the command line options available during the install.

How can I have all users share the same macro file?

Save the shared macro file in a folder where all users have read/write/create/modify privileges. On each computer, open Keyboard Express and click on File > Open File. Navigate to the folder containing the shared file and load in the file. Restarting Keyboard Express ensures that the shared file is now the default macro file that loads when the program starts.

Apply the steps in the "How do I run the program over a network" discussion below to fully implement the sharing of the same macro file.

Please review the online Knowledge Base article about deploying Keyboard Express over a network and sharing the same macro file, if requiring this type of installation.

How do I run the program over a network?
Click on Options > Preferences > Network from the Keyboard Express - Explorer and choose the "File Locking of Macro Files" option. This enables the networking capabilities of the program. File locking will be performed preventing overwriting of data by 2 or more users. If a user attempts to change any data in the Keyboard Express file and the data they currently display has been altered by another user, the user will be notified that the data has been changed and the new data will be loaded and displayed.

The Automatic Synchronization Updating option is available to allow automatic synchronization of data files between users on a network. This updating may be set to occur every minute, every two minutes on up to every 99 minutes. For example, if the interval is set to 5 minutes and another user makes a change to the same open macro file, then within 5 minutes, the macro data will automatically be synchronized between the networked computers without any manual intervention.

How do I prevent my network users from changing the macro data?
Use the command line option /B which places Keyboard Express in a browse only mode. All macros still function, but they cannot be changed by the user.

Note: Please note that multi-user networking of this product requires multi-user licensing.
